Shaping Excellence for Over 70 Years

At Compco, we don’t just manufacture tank heads — we shape solutions.
As America’s leading supplier for the pressure vessel, water heater/storage, propane, and cryogenics industries, we specialize in deep-draw metal stamping with mechanical and hydraulic presses ranging from 600 to 2,500 tons.
For more than seven decades, customers have trusted Compco for exceptional quality, complete customer care, and on-time delivery — every time.
Our story is built on resilience.
Clarence Smith Sr. founded Compco in 1952, but his journey started long before that — as a 10-year-old orphan in Youngstown, Ohio, learning the basics of business from a local grocer while living in the store’s basement. Those early lessons in grit and hard work shaped a company that would become a manufacturing leader.
Starting with pipe hangers, Clarence and business partner Martin Poshner quickly recognized a greater opportunity: manufacturing tank heads. Their vision fueled Compco’s growth — and expanded its expertise across the metal stamping and fabrication industries.
Today, Compco is more than a manufacturer — we are a proud community partner, providing great jobs for great people and delivering a full range of services, including stamping, cutting, welding, assembly, and custom fabrication.
Now led by the third generation of the Smith family — and training the fourth — Compco continues to build a future where innovation, quality, and integrity remain at the heart of everything we do.

Martin was Smith’s trusted business partner and friend.

The Smith family has a long history of supporting the community. Today you will continue to see Compco team members at numerous fundraisers across the Mahoning Valley.

Compco got its name from an abbreviating Commercial Piping Company.

Clarence Jr. was always ahead of his time in innovation and technology.
